The Wedding Effect: Shedding Some Pounds

Chris & me @ Yellowstone - May 2010

Well, as my mother just informed me, we have just 60 days until "the big day". Yikes.

Chris and I are tying the knot on June 11 back in Northeastern Pennsylvania at my father's house. (We live in Salt Lake City, UT.) I'll be flying back to good ol' Scranton, PA on May 25 so I can attend my cousin's wedding...which is 2 weeks before mine. Crazy. Then I'll just be staying in PA...for 3 weeks straight. Oh...the horror. Don't get me wrong, I love my family and it's so nice to see everyone, but they live in the boonies. 30 minutes outside of Scranton, which is considered the closest "city". That's a whole other topic though.

Anyways...

So I finished my student teaching on April 1 (not an April fools joke, though I wish it was), and I have been home, waiting patiently to be called for a job interview. It's a tough market out there, so keep your fingers crossed for me! =] But since I've been somewhat bored, I've decided to take on losing some weight...and this, my friends, is what I call *the wedding effect*. I really doubt I'd be motivated to lose weight if I weren't getting married in -- let me remind you: 60 days.

And some of you ladies out there can probably relate to me, I'm sure. The weight loss journey that starts once or twice a year and ends within a few weeks. Yeah...I'm guilty of this.

I have a Wii Fit, along with The Biggest Loser Wii game. I have an exercise ball and resistance bands. I have 6 Biggest Loser books (wait...seriously?) which I got when I signed up for The Biggest Loser Club online last fall. I have the workout clothes and the special sneaker insoles so my weird arches don't hurt. And where has all of this gotten me? No where really...until now. =]

Last Monday I started working out, willingly. I've changed my diet a little bit. I drink a lot more water every day and I'm writing down how much I exercise every day. I still can't bring myself to count my calories though. Now that is something that I just don't have the patience for. I've been working out with Bob & Jillian 3x a week with the WiiFit. I have free access to the gym on campus at the U of U, so I went on Wednesday when I was on campus. I love running on the treadmill. That's the only thing I actually like doing at the gym. Everything else is boring to me.

Today I have a district interview on campus, so I might go to the gym after the interview. But it's supposed to be nice, so I may just come home and go running in the Aves. We'll see what happens.

My *beautiful* mother & me in Nashville, TN for the CMAs - November 2010

So far I've lost 2 pounds since Monday. My goal is to lose 13 more pounds by June 11. (Ha!) According to the BMI scale, I'm pretty close to "overweight" for my height. Pff, right. I'll show them! If I continue to lose 2 pounds a week, then I should make the goal. If I lose the weight, I bet I'd have to have my wedding dress taken in. Can this even be done 2 weeks before the wedding? I guess we'll just have to find out.

Besides the weight loss, I'm hoping that this "healthy lifestyle" will be better for my face. I have just been breaking out like crazy lately...and I'm not even stressed anymore! This is just what I need before the wedding. Hopefully the weather will be nice in Pennsylvania when I'm there and I can lay by the pool and get a nice tan and it will cover some of my facial imperfections for the wedding. =]

Oh, do I ever have hopes and dreams...

Chris & me going to junior prom - April 2004

I am so excited to be marrying the love of my life in...60 days. We've been together for 7 years, so let's hope this lucky 7 will help us out on the wedding day with the weather. *fingers crossed*

  1. I wish you the best. I have been working out too since for four weeks already. I am doing the Insanity workout videos. I am just starting to see some results. I try not to use the weight scale because it is said that you loose fat but gain lean muscle weight. I feel much better, energized and with more enthusiasm to do my home blessings(chores). I am also 10 pounds above my normal BMI. The workout promises results in 60 days. I am half way there. I know you will be able to reach your goal too.

  2. First let me say, I'm a fan of your blog! I'm doing my mail station just like yours. I linked over from iheartorganizing. Also, it gave me an idea for my blog so I linked the post back to you to give you credit (not that this matters cause I don't have any readers yet.) When I publish the post I'll send you an email so you can see how you inspired me. Second, congrats on the upcoming marriage! Don't lose too much weight. It really might be difficult finding someone to take in your dress so close to the wedding. :)
